TABARRINI    2001    MONTEFALCO ROSSO              UMBRIA  (unknown) 89
TABARRINI    2001    MONTEFALCO SAGRANTINO      UMBRIA  (unknown) 91
These are the first wines I have tasted from Tabarrini, a new face in Umbria, and I was impressed by the excellent results from what is obviously a quality viticulture and the skillful shaping of the wines on the part of oenologist Emiliano Falsini. The 2001 Montefalco Rosso, Sangiovese with a bit of Sagrantino, ripe on the nose with notes of herbs and chocolate, is firm and focused in flavor, long and vigorous on the finish. Drink: 2006-2014. The 2001 Montefalco Sagrantino is even better, smoky and sizeable in its aromas, rich and sweet on the palate with the characteristically powerful tannins and dense texture of the variety.
Drink: 2006-2018. No American importer for the 2001 vintage.
